Northwest Houston man killed after 2-hour SWAT standoff

HOUSTON—One man was killed after police said he pointed a gun at officers after a two-hour SWAT standoff in northwest Houston.

Police responded to a call in the 8000 block of Turquoise. Residents reported that their neighbor was firing a gun into the air.

Police said when they arrived, the 49-year-old suspect fired his gun. It is unknown if the suspect fired at police or in the air.

That is when police said they took cover and called SWAT.

Police said SWAT tried to negotiate with the man for about two hours, but were unsuccessful.

Police said around 10:45 p.m., the suspect stepped to the front door and raised his gun toward officers. Police said the gun’s laser was aimed at the officers.

That is when police said a SWAT team member fired once, killing the suspect.
