Officer fatally shoots man
A Houston police officer investigating a domestic violence call Monday killed a man who lunged at him armed with a machete and a knife, authorities said.
The man's wife called police shortly about 7:30 p.m., saying her husband had struck their two children with a belt at the home in the Ridge Stone apartments on Fondren, police said.
She told police that her husband had been drinking. The man, who has not been identified, was waiting in the parking lot for officers, officials said.
Officer Xavier Flores "approached the subject and gave him commands - in both English and Spanish - to get on the ground," said Jodi Silva, an HPD spokeswoman. Flores fired at least once when the man lunged at him with one of the weapons. The man fell and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
