Webster police fatally shot a gunman suspected of robbing a League City nightclub with two other men Sunday night, officials said Monday.
The gunman had aimed his pistol at the Webster police officer, who then fired at him, officials said. The other two men were taken into custody.
Three men entered the Easy Street bar in the 100 block of Texas 3 North at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Paul Odin of the League City Police Department.
They secured the door behind them and demanded money from the customers and employees, Webster Police Chief Ray Smiley said. Then they left in a vehicle easily identifiable because of rear end damage, he said.
League City police chased the men, who drove into Webster. Webster police officers also began following them and pulled them over, authorities said.
The driver surrendered and one passenger fled but was captured, Smiley said.
The other passenger ran into a parking lot near NASA Parkway and Kobayashi, authorities said. Smiley said Webster officer Colin Murphy chased after him and fired four times when the man aimed a pistol at him as they ran.
The shot hit the man in the head. He died at Memorial Hermann Hospital-The Texas Medical Center. His name was not released.
As is customary in all police-involved shootings, the Harris County District Attorney's Office will investigate and Murphy is on administrative leave.
