Suspected car thief crashed into home after being shot by police
A Pasadena police officer shot and wounded a suspected car thief moments before the stolen pickup smashed through the wall of a home late Monday night.
Police said the officer, who has not been identified, fired several shots at the man, hitting him at least three times after the man apparently tried to run him down, said Vance Mitchell, Pasadena Police Department spokesman.
The man, whose identity was not available on Tuesday, was flown by medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center with serious gunshot wounds.
Mitchell said the officer was dispatched to the 500 block of Houston about 11:30 p.m. to investigate a car theft. When he arrived, he saw a man in a Dodge pickup that had been reported stolen.
The man drove away and the officer chased him a short distance to the 100 block of Denham, where the man apparently lost control of the pickup, slammed into a sign and a lamp post before ending up in the front yard of a home near the intersection of Denham and South Shaver.
The officer approached the man from the rear of the truck, but the man backed up toward him and the officer fired, police said. After the man was wounded the pickup smashed through the wall of the home.
