HOUSTON—The man accused of hitting and killing a Houston Chronicle employee during a police chase appeared in court overnight Monday.
Frank Marron, 17, killed Homero Rosales, 41, when he crashed into Rosales’ SUV.
Marron was being chased by police when the crash occurred.
He has been charged with murder and is being held on $100,000 bond.
Over the weekend, an attorney for Rosales’ family spoke out about the Houston Police Department’s chase policy.
Houston Chronicle Homero Rosales had been an employee of the Houston Chronicle for 23 years. He had worked his way up from building maintenance to the press room.
The attorney said Rosales’ family wanted to know why police were chasing Marron when he did not appear to present any immediate threat to public safety.
Police said they chased Marron through a residential area after they ran the plates on the pickup truck he was driving.
They said the truck was stolen.
HPD stood by its chase policy, saying it is the suspect’s actions that determine the outcome of pursuits.
