Cop with warrant shoots suspect
A Houston police officer shot and injured a man he was trying to arrest after the suspect allegedly charged toward him at a northwest Houston apartment complex late Friday morning, authorities said.
Officer R.B. Olive was assisting narcotics officers serving a warrant to a suspect, identified as Brian Keith Lee, 21, at an apartment complex in the 3500 block of West Little York around 11:45 a.m., said HPD spokesman John Cannon.
After narcotics officers approached the apartment and breached the door, Lee, who was known to be armed, jumped head-first through a window, Cannon said.
Olive was covering the window when Lee came through.
Despite several verbal commands to stay on the ground, Lee got up and allegedly charged toward the officer, Cannon said. Fearing for his life, Olive discharged his duty weapon once, striking Lee in the left arm, Cannon said.
Lee was taken to Northwest Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Olive will be placed on up to three days of administrative duty which is standard HPD procedure, Cannon said.
The case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division, Internal Affairs Division as well as the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
