Jail inmate death under investigation

BAYTOWN, TX (KTRK) -- Baytown police are investigating the death of an inmate at the city's jail.

Officers arrested Richard Mathes on August 1 for outstanding warrants.

The next day, he got into an altercation with correctional officers.

Three days later, staffers found him dead.

A preliminary autopsy showed Mathes had internal physical trauma severe enough to result in his death.
