HOUSTON -- A man who was shot during a standoff with SWAT officer has died, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said Stephen Paul Greene, 54, barricaded himself inside a home on Soway Street near Greiner Drive in northwest Houston for several hours on Sunday.

Investigators said Greene's mother called police because he was threatening to kill himself.

When Greene found out that police were on the way, he told relatives that he would point his gun at officers to make them shoot him, investigators said.

Detectives said that while SWAT officers were setting up at the scene, Greene came out of the home with a pistol in his hand. Three SWAT officers fired at Greene when he raised his gun in their direction.

Greene was shot in the torso and taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he died.
