Deputy constable shoots man

Houston police are investigating a reserve deputy constable's shooting of a man who appeared to be burglarizing his car early Sunday morning.

Precinct 6 Reserve Deputy Constable D. Villarreal was working off-duty as a security guard in a parking lot near the corner of Westpark and Gessner when he saw four people in and around his car just after midnight, police said.

He shouted at them to stop, and three of them did, but one fled, police said.

Police said the man turned and reached under his shirt, prompting Villarreal to fire.

The man, Nicolas Bustos, was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he was in stable condition. The three other suspects were charged with burglary.
