Lanny Blaine Robinson, 49, shot 10 times in the head and torso and killed by Mark R. Prendergast, w/m, 37, a “highly trained (HPD narcotics) officer.” Police claim Robinson, riding in the back seat of the undercover officers’ car, held a knife at the back of the neck of Jimmy D. Cargill, w/m, 33 (the driver), and his partner, Prendergast, shot him. The alleged weapon, a cheap serrated steak knife, was picked up by police from the side of the Gulf Freeway about a half mile from the shooting. Both of these officers have had numerous complaints filed against them, at least 14 of which were sustained.
