HOUSTON -- A Houston police officer shot and killed a suspect possibly linked to several home invasions in southwest Houston, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Houston police officers were looking for three vehicles connected to home invasions in the area.
Officers spotted the vehicles around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. They tried to pull one of the vehicles over, but police said the driver refused to stop.
During a short chase, the driver lost control of his car and hit a curb along All Day Drive near Sands Point Drive.
Police said he then backed up and hit the patrol car.
"The officer gave verbal commands once his vehicle was stopped for the driver to get on the ground and show his hands,” HPD spokesperson John Cannon said.
Cannon said instead of following the officer's commands, the suspect crawled outside his window and pulled out a gun.
“He was moving around in the direction of the officer with the gun in his hand and that's when the officer discharged his weapon," Cannon said.
The officer fired several shots. The suspect died at the scene.
The suspects in the other vehicles were arrested.
KPRC Local 2 is told the officer involved in the shooting is a 12-year veteran with HPD.
