Officer shoots, kills suspect after high-speed chase in southwest Houston

HOUSTON—An officer said he was forced to shoot and kill a suspect after a high-speed chase in southwest Houston.

Around 9 p.m., police said they received a FBI bulletin to look out for three types of cars wanted for organized crimes in home invasions. The FBI bulletin said the cars were possibly on the southwest side of town.

An HPD gang task force unit spotted the cars at a car wash located on Harwin and Allday. The unit attempted to approach, but the cars sped off.

HPD was able to tail one of the cars, a white Cadillac. The chase continued down Harwin, south on Gessner and ended on Sands Point. The suspect lost control of the speeding Cadillac and went up on a curb and HPD was able to block it in.

The two suspects still would not give up and decided to try and make a run for it. They tried to jump out of the car windows and flee on foot.

The passenger jumped out and took off, but as the driver was exiting the window, police noticed a handgun.

They gave repeated orders for him to drop the gun, but the suspect did not comply.

The officer, in fear for his life, decided to open fire. He fired three rounds at the suspect, who died at next to the car.

Another unit eventually caught the suspect who bolted from the passenger window. He was taken into custody.
