HPD officer who was shot in face remains in critical condition

HOUSTON—A Houston police officer who was shot in the face while serving a warrant remained in critical condition Friday.

Rick Salter and other officers raided a home in southeast Houston a week ago.

Investigators said suspected drug dealer Joel Alfaro was inside and shot at the officers, striking Salter.

The other officers returned fire, killing Alfaro.

Investigators said Alfaro was in the country illegally and had a criminal history.
