HOUSTON -- A Houston police officer shot a carjacking suspect on Monday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said a person was carjacked on Corporate Drive at about 4:30 p.m.

An officer spotted the car on Club Creek Drive near Beechnut Street shortly before 6 p.m.

Investigators said the driver was getting out of the car and the officer told him several times to get on the ground.

The driver reached for a gun that was in his waistband and the officer shot him twice, detectives said.

The driver was wounded in the hand and abdomen. He was taken to Ben Taub Hospital for treatment.
