HOUSTON -- A Houston police officer shot and killed a man after he stabbed a woman and a Good Samaritan, police said.
When officers arrived at the Cobblestone apartments around 11:30 p.m. Friday, they saw the suspect stabbing a woman on the second floor. As the officers ran upstairs, they found the suspect then stabbing a neighbor.
That neighbor did not survive, officials said. He has been identified as Tereso Olivera, 62. His family said he heard the woman screaming for help and sprang into action.
"My mom says that he said how come somebody doesn't help her," said Anna Olvera, the victim's daughter. "He stood up barefoot and no shirt, just his shorts and took a sledge hammer. He went upstairs to try and defend her."
As the suspect was stabbing Olivera in the arm, Officer M. Marin shot the suspect in the arm. That's when investigators said the suspect lunged towards Marin.
Marin then shot the suspect in the head, killing him, police said.
Olivera's children said that while they are sad he is gone, they are proud of their father.
"I'm going to miss him. I wasn't ready to let him go," said Robert Olivera, the victim's son. "I wasn't ready for him to get taken away especially like this. I always pictured my dad dying, being to old or something. I'm going to miss him."
