HOUSTON -- A man has been charged after being shot by a police officer, KPRC Local 2 reported.
Houston police said an officer stopped a vehicle on suspicion of a traffic violation in the 4600 block of West Tidwell Road near T.C. Jester Boulevard at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday.
Investigators said two officers were taking three people into custody and one man broke loose.
Tavan DeShawn Anderson ran from the officers, police said. Detectives said one of the officers chased Anderson and shot him when he thought Anderson was reaching for a weapon.
Anderson suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital for treatment. He has been charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon, possession of marijuana and evading arrest.
The driver, Marquise Deshun Gray, was arrested on charged of possession of a controlled substance. Another passenger, Natasha Ladale Richard, was arrested on outstanding warrants.
